Planning a wedding is an exciting time and although these days it is usually a joint affair between both the bride and groom, the bride often has visions of what she wants her special day to look like. The groom will usually, though not always, go along with her.

So here are 10 top tips when starting that planning.

Set a budget – Determine a realistic budget for your wedding early on. This guides your decisions and helps you prioritize expenses and not get to the day and panic that you have overspent.

Church, registrar or celebrant – decide who you want to get married by. Do you want a church wedding, or another venue. Do you want a registrar to come to your venue and conduct the ceremony? Or would you be happy having a quiet registrar do the legal marriage part and then have a celebrant officiate at your wedding ceremony.

Prioritize your priorities – Identify what aspects of the wedding are most important to you and your partner. Whether it’s the venue, photography, celebrant or entertainment, allocate more resources to these areas.

Create a Time line – develop a time line that outlines when various tasks need to be completed. This will help you stay organised and ensure nothing gets overlooked. It’s also useful to be able to share this with others involved in organising your wedding.
Select a suitable venue – choose a venue that aligns with your vision, accommodates your guest list and fits within your budget. Consider factors like location, capacity and amenities.

Choose reliable vendors – research and select reputable vendors for services like catering, photography and entertainment. Read reviews, ask for recommendations, and meet with potential vendors before making decisions.

Delegate responsibilities – don’t try to do everything on your own. Enlist the help of trusted friends or family members, or consider hiring a wedding planner to assist with the details.

Stay flexible – understand that not everything will go exactly as planned. Be prepared to adapt to changes and have contingency plans in place. If you want an outdoor wedding, what happens if it’s raining when you wake up.

Take care of yourself – wedding planning can be stressful, so be sure to prioritize self-care. Get enough rest, eat well, exercise and find ways to relax and de-stress.

Enjoy the journey – remember that this is a special day in your life, so try to enjoy the process. Celebrate each milestone and cherish the moments leading up to your big day.

And Finally,

Do remember your partner – keep them involved throughout the whole process. Make your decisions together and share ideas and needs.

At the end of the day, every wedding is unique to you. It is what you and your partner want, nobody else. And last but not least, ENJOY.
