Are you getting engaged during this engagement season – This is the time when typically a higher number of couples get engaged. This can happen for several reasons.
Couples are together with their families during the festive seasons of all religions so it is a happy family time. Romance comes through during holiday seasons. Time off from work means you will spend more time together so giving an opportunity to become engaged. The start of a new year can symbolise a new beginning and what better way to have a new beginning that to get engaged.
Once you are engaged you can start to plan your wedding. Now you can consider whether you want a celebrant to conduct your ceremony.
Below are a few questions and answers that might help you decide to ask a celebrant to officiate at your wedding.
Question 1 – Does a celebrant legally marry a couple?
Not yet. At this moment in time you still need to go to a Registrar to have the legal deed done. However, this can be either in the days before the ceremony, or in the days after the ceremony. Sometimes you might manage to get a Registrar to your wedding day to do it on the same day.
Question 2 – What role does a celebrant have?
From the time you choose your celebrant to the actual day they will work with you on your ceremony. They’ll write your story from what you tell them; they’ll include any rituals you might like. Then there is the rehearsal and finally the big day when they officiate at your wedding.
Question 3 – Can a celebrant perform a wedding ceremony anywhere?
Just about! How about a large field? Or your back garden? Or the garden of your local pub? Or the stunning grounds of the manor house or hotel. For a celebrant led wedding the place you decide on does not have to be licensed so you have much more choice.
Question 4 – Symbolic rituals. What are they?
These are little happenings that can be included in your wedding ceremony which mean something to you and your family. It might be the lighting of a candle together; or your family pouring sand into a vessel to show the joining of two families. I will be writing another blog thread on rituals in the coming months so keep an eye out for it.
Question 5 – Do I need to be legally married first?
This is a question that is often asked and the simple answer is no. You can decided. You might like to get the legals done before your celebrant led wedding, but you might not be able to, in which case wait until afterwards. Either way you can still have your wedding at your time.
